The Junior Faculty Council (JFC) is seeking motivated attending physiatrists to join its leadership team.

JFC members build national networks and visibility by representing peers on committees, collaborating on key issues in the field, and developing resources for those transitioning into attending roles and those early in their careers. Members also help plan educational and networking sessions for the AAP Annual Meeting and foster year-round engagement.

Things to Know Before Applying
  • Each position is a two year term:
    • Vice Chair will assume the position of Chair at Physiatry ’28 and the role of Past Chair at Physiatry ’30.
    • Both Member-at-Large and Academic Development Rep positions will transition out of their roles at Physiatry ’28.
  • You must be considered Junior Faculty, which is defined as current attendings with less than 10 years of post-training experience.
  • Attend 75% of all scheduled meetings.
  • All applicants must be active AAP members to be considered.
  • Elections will take place online with transition occurring in-person at the AAP’s Annual Meeting.
  • Applications are due by Friday, May 1, 2026.

Open Positions and Responsibilities

Vice Chair

  • Assumes the role of Chair after their term as Vice Chair and Past Chair after their term as Chair.
  • Leads council meetings if the Chair is unable.
  • Support the Chair in the development of the JFC action plan.
  • Support JFC members’ project endeavors.
  • Assist in the development of the networking event at the Annual Meeting.
  • Applies for and adds Junior Faculty representation to the AAP Governance Committee.

Academic Development Representative

  • Develop informative longitudinal content (e.g. podcasts, webinars, and other educational programs and tracks) to address the priorities of Junior Faculty.
  • Applies for and adds Junior Faculty representation to the AAP Education Committee.

Member-at-Large


Additional Council Position Information

Past Chair

  • Ensure a smooth transition to new JFC members.
  • Advise the Chair and JFC as needed.
  • Assist in the development of longitudinal programing.

Chair
(*Not currently recruiting for this position)

  • Assumes the role of Past Chair after their term as Chair.
  • Preside over all JFC meetings.
  • Lead the development of the JFC action plan and annual meeting session(s) and networking events.
  • Serve as a liaison between the JFC, other AAP committees, and the AAP office.
  • Assist in the development and submission of session for Annual Meeting.
  • Adds Junior Faculty representation to the AAP Advisory Board.

Membership Representative
(*Not currently recruiting for this position)

  • Conceptualize and develop initiatives to expand Junior Faculty membership in AAP including maintenance of current Junior Faculty members and recruitment of new Junior Faculty members.
  • Leads developments of the networking event at the Annual Meeting.
  • Applies for and adds Junior Faculty representation to the AAP Membership Engagement Committee.

Digital Outreach Representative
(*Not currently recruiting for this position)

  • Maintain Junior Faculty social media presence and create content highlighting events, programs, and opportunities.
  • Create and publish digital content curated through the JFC that may be of interest to Junior Faculty AAP members.
  • Coordinate and create advertisements for Junior Faculty events.
  • Applies for and adds Junior Faculty representation to the AAP Program Committee.

Advocacy Representative
(*Not currently recruiting for this position)

  • Partner with committees and organizations to equip and empower Junior Faculty AAP members to advocate effectively across public policy, research, healthcare, and patient care at regional, national, and global levels.
  • Provide Junior Faculty with access to relevant advocacy resources for their practices/patient populations.
  • Applies for and adds Junior Faculty representation to the AAP Public Policy Committee.
