About LIME

The Association of Academic Physiatrists’ newest faculty development program is kicking off in 2026!

Leadership in Medical Education (LIME) is designed to equip physiatrists with the knowledge and skills needed to become accomplished teachers and leaders in medical education.

Led by Leslie Rydberg, MD, of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, and Rebecca Dutton, MD, of University of New Mexico, LIME is a longitudinal 1.5-year curriculum that develops skills step by step, building the confidence, tools, and expertise needed to thrive as top-tier medical educators.

Program Structure

LIME will consist of interactive, in-person, hands-on educational workshops with small group activities, discussions, and reflections, supported by virtual quarterly meetings, and culminating in a capstone education-focused project.

This course is intended for early to midcareer faculty to provide in-depth and focused faculty development relating to medical education. Ideal participants are those with a desire to specifically enhance their knowledge, skills, and leadership abilities as a medical educator. This includes but is not limited to those interested in education leadership (e.g. UME/GME administration, program directorships, etc.).

LIME is organized around three primary themes, with each workshop exploring topics related to a theme. LIME participants are expected to attend three in-person meetings during their participation in the program.

Participants starting in 2026 will have the following schedule:

  1. Physiatry NXT 2026 (October 22 - 25, Rochester, MN)
  2. AAP Annual Meeting 2027 (February 16 - 20, Long Beach, CA)
  3. AAP Annual Meeting 2028
