The Association of Academic Physiatrists (the “AAP”) is committed to treating your personal data with care and respect. This statement explains our data practices and the choices you can make about the way the information you provide us is collected and used. For easy and direct access, we provide a link to this statement from the footer of our home page and all other pages of the website (the “Site”).
We use the information primarily to provide you with a personalized Internet experience that delivers the information, resources, and services that are most relevant and helpful to you. We do not share any of the information you provide with others unless we say so in this Privacy Policy or you have given us explicit consent.
What Information We Collect
The AAP collects data to operate effectively and provide you with the best experiences from our services. When you browse www.physiatry.org or www.ajpmr.com and do not interact with the site for any online service or product from the AAP, you browse anonymously. Information that identifies you personally—such as your name, address, phone number and email address—is not collected as you browse. We do not store sensitive information such as credit card or social security numbers. When you create an account to become a registered user on our sites, or choose to interact with us in other ways, such as subscribing to AAP publications, purchasing an AAP product, applying for AAP membership, participating in online surveys, submitting questions or comments or requesting information or materials, we will collect certain personal information from you. You will be asked for your contact information, such as your name, email address, address, work setting, profession, principal professional field, phone number, educational credentials and country of residence (“Personal Information”). The Personal Information is linked directly to a personal User Name and Password chosen by the user and can be retrieved only by supplying the correct User Name and Password that is linked to that account. It is the user’s responsibility to maintain his/her password securely and to confirm the accuracy of his/her information. For individuals without a registered account on the Site, we will require explicit consent to collect data.
How We Use Personal Information
If consent is given, the AAP will use your Personal Information to send targeted and non-targeted content via email and direct mail on the AAP’s programs and services, events, special offers, newsletters, organizational announcements, surveys and membership news. If you are an active member of the AAP (meaning your dues payments are up-to-date and membership is not expired), we will also share your information with other active members in our Member Directory if you give consent when creating an account. In addition, the personal information of active members is shared with our official medical journal, The American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (“AJPMR”) for announcements on the latest releases.
Service Providers
The AAP uses approved third-party providers as needed to conduct business and to provide specific services. The AAP works with these third parties (such as AdRoll, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Oasis LMS and CadmiumCD) to collect data about website usage and to improve the effectiveness of our marketing. The AdRoll platform uses cookies, tracking pixels and related technologies to provide marketing services for the AAP. Cookies are small data files that are served by our platform and stored on your device. They enable us to identify your device when you move between different websites and applications, so that we can serve targeted advertising to you. The Facebook, Twitter and Instagram platforms use personal data that you have shared with them to serve targeted advertising to on their platforms. If an account is registered on the Oasis LMS platform (also known as the AAP’s Virtual Campus), your name, email address and courses you have taken are stored for future access to the site and to track your educational activities. Data recorded through the use of this technology is aggregated and shared with us. No personally identifiable information about you is collected, stored or shared by these third parties with the AAP.
The AAP may share personal information (except your email address) with our business partners in order to provide them an opportunity to offer products or services that may be of interest to you (this excludes international residents). You can request that your information is not shared with business partners by emailing us at any time. The AAP occasionally hires other companies to provide limited services on our behalf including, but not limited to, processing credit card transactions, packaging, consulting services, data modeling, session monitoring and website analytics, printing, sending postal mail and processing membership and event registration. We will only provide those companies the information they need to deliver the service. They are prohibited from using that information for any other purpose. The AAP may disclose your personal information to a third party if (1) reasonably necessary to perform a service or deliver a product or publication; (2) authorized by you; (3) permitted under this Privacy Policy; (4) required by statue or regulation; or (5) in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to legal requirements or comply with legal process served on the AAP; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of the AAP; (c) protect the personal safety of AAP personnel or members of the public in urgent circumstances; or (d) enforce the AAP’s Privacy Policy.
Your Choices & Opting Out
If you wish to have any personal data corrected or deleted at any time, you can (1) update your permissions and information through your registered account using your secure User Name and Password; (2) email aap@physiatry.org; or call the AAP office at 410-654-1000. You may opt out of receiving AAP emails at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of each communication. You may also opt out of receiving direct mail communications from the AAP, AJPMR and/or its business partners by emailing us at aap@physiatry.org or calling the AAP offices at 410-654-1000.
