top 5 reasons to join

The Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP), founded in 1967, is an influential and intimate professional society — and its Annual Meeting personifies this. Last year’s attendees were zealous about how it’s a welcoming group, inspirational family and supportive setting among thought-leaders while also being a mental springboard, stimulating environment and treasure trove of resources.

Outside of our Annual Meeting, we continue to grow with our specialty by connecting you to meaningful programs, publications and partners. Here are the top five reasons why you need to belong to our community.

Support Research & Education

Adding your name to the ranks of over 1,700 leaders and rising stars in physiatry declares your dedication to improved research, education and patient care. Your membership gives you access to important AAP programs and initiates that are helping the specialty expand and thrive.

Help Future Physiatrists

AAP members are instrumental in growing and mentoring the next generation of physiatrists. As an educator, you will receive resources and networks to help you stay cutting-edge. Your membership also supports programs that develop academic leaders who will advance our specialty, such as the Program for Academic Leadership (PAL), the Rehabilitation Medicine Scientist Training Program (RMSTP), Medical Student PM&R Externships - RREMS and MSSCE, and AAP mentor programs.

Make the Right Connections

When you join the AAP, you belong to an influential community that is well known for being welcoming and supportive. The AAP Annual Meeting offers an intimate environment (bringing together over 1,200 attendees) to connect and learn with current and future peers and mentors across the country. Listservs, active councils, virtual activities, publications and mentor programs allow you to stay connected throughout the year.

Advance Your Career

The AAP gives you exclusive access to invaluable programs/events designed to enhance leadership and academic success, career advancement opportunities, and resources developed by and for experts in the specialty to help you grow. Subscription to the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, a leading medical journal in rehabilitation, and various other resources are at your disposal - including our Virtual Campus!

Develop Your Leadership Skills

Participate as an active leader in a variety of national workshops and volunteer leadership positions that will develop your skills as you give back to your specialty. The AAP is always seeking Volunteers for Committees and mentors for various AAP programs.
