WELCOME TO THE AAP Medical Student Information center!

The AAP offers a unique opportunity for medical students to make connections for lifelong support and mentorship. AAP membership and participation in the Annual Meeting offer a chance to connect and learn from leading physiatrists, gain leadership experience and participate in education and training programs designed to enhance your career growth and academic success. Read on to learn more about programs that are exclusive to medical students.



We are excited to announce the establishment of the first national PM&R Medical Student Council. These highly motivated medical students are interested in leadership positions to represent medical student members of the AAP and promote the field of PM&R to medical students throughout the country.

Medical Student PM&R Fairs

Introduce students at your medical school, and possibly at surrounding schools, to PM&R by holding a PM&R Fair. A hands-on look into the specialty is a great way to increase interest. AAP can help you by providing a grant of up to $1,000 to to assist with costs. We also have a sample planning guide for your event and resources from other groups who have previously hosted fairs. research & clinical Externships

AAP offers funded research and clinical externships for medical students in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), a specialty that aims to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to patients with physical impairments or disabilities.Both programs are eight-week summer externships offered to medical students between the first and second year of medical school with an attache stipend of $4,000.

Rehabilitation Research Experience for Medical Students (RREMS) offers a stuctured research experience paired with the opportunity alongside the most successful and respected faculty members in PM&R.

Medical Student Summer Clinical Externship (MSSCE) offers hands on clinical experience and the opportunity to see patients and establish mentors in PM&R.

Join AAP's online Student Interest Group community. Registering yourself or your group will give you the opporunity to connect with other medical students interested in PM&R, stay up to date on events in your area and nationally and access resources for your group.
