2019 Signature Learning Path - Musculoskeletal Health for a Lifetime

Musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders are the leading causes of disability globally and their prevalence is expected to continue to increase with global aging, obesity, and sedentariness. There is a great need to reflect and redefine the role of physiatrists in tackling the MSK disorders across the continuum of care for individual patients and for society. We welcome proposals on:

  • Implementation of an effective care model to maintain good MSK health across the lifespan
  • Biopsychosocial model for understanding the complexity of MSK disorders (e.g. low back pain)
  • Research for biological and mechanistic understanding of MSK disorders
  • Myths and facts of regenerative medicine and orth-biologics
  • Burdens of MSK disorders on individuals, health systems, and social care systems
  • Secondary musculoskeletal complications of neurological disorders *both acquired and congenital*
  • Comprehensive care of prevention to intervention of fragility fractures
  • New approaches to prevent MSK disorders in the work place
  • Physiatry leadership in education of MSK system and disorders among medical students
  • Unique populations benefiting from physiatric expertise in musculoskeletal care (e.g. hypermobility)
