The Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP) is seeking PM&R Departments with strong educational programs and/or research centers to apply as hosting site sponsors for our Medical Student Summer PM&R Research and Clinical Experiences - MSSCE and RREMS.

Medical Students from all American allopathic or osteopathic medical schools will be encouraged to apply in December.

Rehabilitation Research Experience for Medical Students (RREMS)

The RREMS program has been developed for medical students with strong research interests. This program will provide an exciting and structured research experience while exposing the medical student to some of the most successful and respected faculty mentors in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R).  RREMS is led by Program Director, Brad Dicianno, MD.

Medical Student Summer Clinical Externship (MSSCE)

The MSSCE has been developed for medical students with a strong desire for clinical experience in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and who are eagerly seeking opportunities to see patients. This program aims to provide a wide range of inpatient and outpatient clinical exposure and to allow students to explore the human side of patient care and the psychosocial environments their patients face. MSSCE is led by Program Director, R. Samuel Mayer, MD.

RREMS and MSSCE are eight-week summer externships offered to medical students between the first and second year of medical school with an attached stipend of $4,000. Each student is expected to submit a research study (RREMS participants) or a case report (MSSCE participants) for presentation at the AAP Annual Meeting. The contribution by the hosting PM&R Department would be to agree to support the travel and registration of the trainee to the AAP Annual Meeting to allow students to present their work, observe scientific paper presentations, network with residents and leaders in the field of PM&R, and to meet additional mentors.
