Daniel Clinchot, MD Appointed Vice Dean for Education

Ohio State University announced the appointment of Daniel M. Clinchot, MD, to the position of Vice Dean for Education for the OSU College of Medicine. Dr. Clinchot will also assume the title of Associate Vice President for Health Sciences Education for the Office of Health Sciences.

Dr. Clinchot is currently Associate Dean for Medical Education for the College of Medicine and Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He was Medical Director of Ohio State’s Clinical Skills and Assessment and Education Center from 2003 to 2009 and has won six teaching awards since joining the Ohio State faculty in 1992. He has also served on the Medical Center’s Graduate Medical Education Committee for more than 10 years.

He has been one of Ohio State’s representatives to the American Medical Association Section on Medical Schools since 2009 and was a member of the board of trustees of the Association of Academic Physiatrists from 2007 through 2011.

Dr. Clinchot earned his bachelor’s degree in biology at St. John’s University and his medical degree from the State University of New York – Syracuse. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Ohio State, where he also served as chief resident.

He has published and lectured extensively on the subjects of traumatic brain and spinal cord injury and has participatedona number of grants in brain injury research from prominent institutions and foundations, including the NIH. He has been a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed journals and currently serves as associate editor of the American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and a reviewer for Academic Medicine. He has also been an invited speaker on the subject of medical education innovation at professional conferences throughout the country for the past eight years.

Dr. Clinchot has played a central role in growing Ohio State’s national reputation for curricular innovation, specifically, in the development and advancement of our new College of Medicine "Lead. Serve. Inspire” curriculum that will launch in September.
