Neilsen Foundation Awards SCIM Fellowship Grants

The Craig H. Neilsen Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients for its 2012 Neilsen Spinal Cord Injury Medicine (SCIM) Fellowships. The grants are worth up to $100,000 each and will be awarded to Kessler Rehabilitation Center in New Jersey, MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute in Cleveland, Ohio, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The grants will begin on July 1, 2013 for the 2013-2014 academic year. These clinical fellowships are intended to support ACGME-accredited programs in the United States in their efforts to attract the best and the brightest to the specialty of spinal cord injury medicine and to provide these Fellows with a well-rounded experience in clinical and research training.

The Neilsen SCIM Fellowship guidelines and deadlines are available year-round on the home page of the Neilsen Foundation website (www.chnfoundation.org). The application for this competitive process will be available on proposalCENTRAL in early March 2013. The completed application will be due on June 1, 2013 via proposalCENTRAL. ABOUT THE CRAIG H. NEILSEN FOUNDATION

Established in 2002, the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to supporting cutting-edge research to find a cure for paralysis due to spinal cord injury (SCI) and innovative rehabilitation programs to improve the quality of life for those living with SCI. Mr. Neilsen, himself a quadriplegic for 21 years until his death in 2006, recruited experts in the SCI community to peer review all grant requests for scientific and clinical research, post-doctoral fellowships, SCIM Fellowships and quality of life program grants. In addition to other charitable distributions, the Foundation currently funds $6.5 million annually in scientific research grants and $1.5 million annually in quality-of-life programmatic grants which are disbursed throughout the United States and Canada.
