The department enjoys a large integrated program with 30 faculty at three major teaching hospitals; i) Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Administration Hospital, ii) Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, and iii) Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
The Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is an academic tertiary care facility closely affiliated with the Medical College of Wisconsin. The Department of PM&R has research laboratories at the VA including our health services research offices and rehabilitation robotics laboratory. The Zablocki VA includes a 32 bed acute inpatient spinal cord injury unit and an 11 bed general/neurological inpatient rehabilitation unit.
Froedtert Hospital is the primary adult hospital affiliate of the Medical College and is staffed by College physicians providing care in all medical specialties and subspecialties. Froedtert is the only adult Level 1 Trauma Center in eastern Wisconsin. Located within the hospital is a 31 bed inpatient rehabilitation unit, specializing in spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury, spasticity and tone management, and general rehabilitation.
The Medical College of Wisconsin is a major national research center; the largest research institution in the Milwaukee metro area and 2nd largest in Wisconsin. In fiscal year 2009-10, faculty received approximately $160 million in external support for research, teaching, training and related purposes, of which approximately $147 million is for research.

Join the Rehabilitation Medicine Scientist Training Program
Where is the evidence base for rehabilitation treatments? How can we support the value of rehabilitation with payers and policy makers?
Rehabilitation research is the key, and well-trained rehabilitation researchers are needed for the job! We offer NIH-funded research training fellowships at competitive salaries to selected individuals to study with a nationally prominent mentor of their choice for up to 3 years. The goal of the program is to train a cohort of physiatric researchers-focusing on both adult and pediatric rehabilitation topics-who can compete successfully for NIH and other research funds, and who can contribute original research to the advancement of the field. PGY2 and PGY3 residents, and academic faculty members within 5 years of completing their training, are invited to attend a research training workshop held at the annual meeting of the Association of Academic Physiatrists, to help them prepare for the funded RMSTP fellowship. Fellowship Description
Brain Injury Medicine Fellowship
National Rehabilitation Hospital in conjunction with Georgetown University Hospital offers a fellowship in Brain Injury Medicine. Two tracks are currently available: a one-year clinical track and a two-year clinical-research track.
The fellowship will provide an additional year of training to develop skills necessary for the management of brain injury patients who require acute inpatient rehabilitation and long-term outpatient management. In addition to extensive experience on the inpatient rehabilitation units at NRH, the fellow will have the opportunity to do rotations at both Washington Hospital Center and Georgetown University in neuro-critical care, neuro-rehabilitation and various neurological subspecialties.
The fellow will also have the opportunity to work closely and train with the neuropsychology staff and its post-doctoral candidates. Research is required during both the one-year clinical and the two-year clinical-research tracks.

Pediatric Physiatrist
Eastern Virginia Medical School
The Eastern Virginia Medical School Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation seeks a double boarded or fellowship trained pediatric physiatrist for faculty position. The selected applicant will join a pediatric physiatrist in practice at the Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters, a full service, free standing pediatric hospital with 180 beds and an 8 bed inpatient acute rehabilitation unit. Practice includes a busy outpatient practice and participation in multiple subspecialty clinics. Pediatric physiatrists manage a Baclofen Pump Program and Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy Program among other activities.
Eastern Virginia Medical School is the only school of medicine founded by a grassroots effort of the local community. Since the first class matriculated in 1973, the school has graduated more than 2300 physicians, including numerous academic physicians, researchers and practicing clinicians as well as an astronaut. The school's faculty members have received national teaching awards including the Humanism in Medicine award from the AAMC in 2005. The Theresa A. Thomas Clinical Skills Teaching and Assessment Center at EVMS is one of the first and largest of its type and serves as a regional resource for graduate and undergraduate medical students. EVMS is the largest biomedical research institution in southeastern Virginia and is currently building an $80 million expansion, including a new building, to provide additional instructional space and an area dedicated to translational research. Rehabilitation/PhD Biomedical Engineer Researcher
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and the MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute of Ohio is recruiting for a full-time PhD Biomedical Engineer Researcher to join our Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Rehabilitation Research Team and lead clinical research efforts in the arena of post-stroke recovery. The successful candidate will be have a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, with a consistent track record of successful federal extramural funding support (NIH) as a Principal Investigator and relevant peer-reviewed publications focused on neuromuscular applications of electrical stimulation. Support (space and equipment) will be provided for clinical research activities, based on extramural funding. Academic appointment will be commensurate with experience.
MetroHealth Medical Center, a 450 bed tertiary care hospital affiliated with Case School of Medicine, is the regional Level I Trauma Center and features JCAHO and CARF accredited PM&R inpatient and outpatient services.
