Association of Academic Physiatrists Residents / Fellows Council

Those interested in running for a position should submit a brief personal statement (250 words or less) by February 24th, 2012 to Emerald Lin, AAP RFC Secretary, at lin.emerald@gmail.com. Elections will take place during the RFC Program and Business Meeting on Thursday April 1st at the AAP Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV.

Please be aware that there have been some recent changes made to the available positions and their respective duties.

 

Chair

    • Presides at all council meetings and annual elections
    • Recommends resident representatives to AAP Committees and Task Forces
    • Organizes RFC action plan for the year and actively pursues set goals
    • Serves as liaison to the AAP Office
    • Ex-officio member of the AAP Board of Trustees, attends meetings
    • Oversees provision of resident information to Newsletter and Journal
    • Serves as liaison to AAPMR staff and Resident Physicians Council President

Vice Chair

    • Only PGY-2's are eligible; serves as RFC Chair the following year
    • Member of the AAP’s Governance Committee
    • Assists with creation and completion of RFC Action Plan
    • Ex-officio non-voting member of the AAP Board of Trustees, attends meetings
    • Organizes Chief Residents’ Workshop and assists with elections

Secretary

    • Plans RFC program for annual AAP meeting
    • Recruits program speaker for the RFC program
    • Keeps minutes at RFC meetings and conference calls
    • Participates in abstract and paper review for AAP annual meeting
    • Member of the AAP’s Program Committee for the Annual Meeting

Research Representative

    • Promotes and coordinates research opportunities for residents and fellows
    • Organize resources and educational toolkits for grant and scientific writing
    • Participates in abstract and paper review for AAP annual meeting
    • Serves as a liaison to the AAP Research Council

Medical Student Affairs Representative

    • Plans annual medical student workshop at the Annual Meeting
    • Liaison to medical students and interest groups on behalf of the RFC
    • Assists with promotion of PM&R to and the creation of student groups
    • Responsible for organizing content for the Medical Student Newsletter
    • Serves as a liaison to the Medical Student Educators Council

Advancement Representative

    • Works to increase resident/fellow membership and retention
    • Member of the AAP’s Advancement Committee
    • Assists with AAP fundraising and publicity efforts
    • Serves as liaison to the Leadership Development and Recognition Committee
    • Promotes AAP awards and programs for the development of young physiatrists

Technology Representative

    • Member of possible Task Force for planned website re-design
    • Keeps Resident portion of AAP website up-to-date
    • Liaison to AAP Office for website recommendations
    • Assists with disseminating emerging uses of new technology in health care

Fellow Representative

    • Open to PGY-4 members entering a fellowship program
    • Works on RFC projects that focus on improving fellowship education
    • Responsible for planning the Fellowship Workshop at the Annual Meeting
