2009 AAP Annual Meeting Announcements

The Program Committee, along with course directors Gary Chimes, MD, Christopher Visco, MD, and Alfred Q. Campbell, MD, are excited to announce tailored programs during the 2009 AAP Annual Meeting that will meet your specific learning goals and needs. The three main track offerings include:

  • Course A: Becoming the Best You Can Be: Up-to-Date Ways to Address Procedural Competency and Performance Improvement;
  • Course B: Technological Advances in Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation;
  • Course C: The Physiatric Approach to Sports Medicine

Residents/Fellows Workshop

The education methods used in this workshop includes a lecture and hands-on experience. The workshop includes: Course Introduction and Data Gathering; Introduction to the Shoulder; Organization for Shoulder Break-Out Sessions; Shoulder Imaging (Plain films); Shoulder Imaging (MRI); Shoulder Ultrasound; Shoulder EMG; Numbers and Clinical Thinking: How to Use Statistics to Actually Inform Clinical Judgment; Elbow, Forearm, and Hand Break-Out Sessions including X-ray and MRI of the Elbow, Forearm, & Wrist, Ultrasound, Forearm, Wrist, and Hand NCS and Fracture Casting. As a special bonus, Ernest (Ernie) Johnson, MD, a “founding father” of the AAP, will give a Waveform Quiz.

Residents/Fellows Council Program and Dinner

During this evening, Randall S. Braddom, MD, MS, past president of the AAP, will focus on the trends in PM&R practice patterns over time; Identifying physiatric subspecialty and practice location trends; Identifying reasons why ongoing research will remain important in the future of PM&R, and the associated funding issues. After the program, unwind at the Phantom Canyon Brewing Co., a popular dining spot in the city of Colorado Springs specializing in fine food.

SPECIAL PRICING
The AAP has implemented a new package deal for all residents/fellows! This is a result of requests from many residents and PM&R departments over the past few years. This package includes all events mentioned above PLUS the entire AAP Annual Meeting registration. This package includes discounted registration and scheduled meals for the participants and cannot be divided.

For a Resident Member of the AAP the cost is ONLY $490 and for a Resident Non-AAP Member the cost is $710. (Save $123 on the meeting registration by joining the AAP for only $97!)

2009 AAP Residents/Fellows Council Elections

The 2009 AAP Residents/Fellows Council Elections will be held at the 2009 AAP Annual Meeting in Colorado Springs, CO.

AAP resident members interested in getting more involved with the AAP should consider running for a position on the Residents/Fellows Council (RFC).

Those interested in running for a position must submit a personal statement of 250 words or less via e-mail to Steve Yoon, Residents/Fellows Council Chair, at syoonmd@gmail.com by February 1, 2009.

Elections will take place at the AAP Annual Meeting in Colorado Springs, CO on February 26, 2009. You do not need to be present in order to run for a position, but you are highly encouraged to attend.

AAP Task Forces
The AAP has recently announced a structural change in which Task Forces will be created to address specific projects of the organization. Resident members will have the opportunity to be represented on each Task Force. Resident AAP members interested in being considered for appointment to future AAP Task Forces should e-mail Steve Yoon, Residents/Fellows Council Chair, at syoonmd@gmail.com.
