2010 AAP Annual Meeting Announcements

As in the past, there will be three primary courses: Course A will address "The Changing Face of Academic Medicine." Topics in Course A will include the physiatrist as a leader, departmental financial success, quality measurements, and fulfilling the academic mission. Course B, “Road to Recovery After Combat Polytrauma: Reintegration, Rating, and Restitution” will highlight combat-related injuries, their rehabilitation, and the development of appropriate impairment ratings and restitution. Comparisons to and implications for the current non-military methods of evaluation will be examined in this course. Course C, “The Skeletal Muscle: Foundation of Movement, Function, and Exercise,” will involve topics surrounding the function, pathophysiology and rehabilitation of the organ system that PM&R owns - Muscle.

Residents/Fellows Workshop

The education methods used in this workshop includes a lecture and hands-on experience. The workshop includes: Introduction to the Hip and Knee; Hip and Knee Imaging; Break Out Session including Ultrasound Hip, Ultrasound Knee, Physical Exam Special Tests and Proximal EMG. As a special bonus, Ernest (Ernie) Johnson, MD, a “founding father” of the AAP, will give a Waveform Quiz.

Residents/Fellows Council Program and Dinner

During this evening, Walter R. Frontera, MD, PhD, current Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, will focus on the growth of International PM&R as an opportunity for Residents. After the program, unwind with an outdoor barbeque on the lawn at the Hyatt Coconut Point!

The 2010 AAP Residents/Fellows Council Elections will be held at the 2009 AAP Annual Meeting in Bonita Springs, Florida.

AAP resident members interested in getting more involved with the AAP should consider running for a position on the Residents/Fellows Council (RFC).
