The Electrode Store Best Paper Presentation Award Application

The Electrode Store Best Paper Award Applications must be received in the AAP Meetings Office by September 1, 2007. The following application must be completely filled out. Be certain to include the full mailing address for notification purposes.

Platform Paper Presentation will include three "Electrode Store Best Paper Presentations" - one for each of the following categories: (1) medical student (2) resident (3)fellow, and (4) young faculty member. Through this effort, the AAP hopes to encourage young researchers and strengthen all investigation in the field of PM&R. These papers will be presented in addition to the other AAP platform papers.

Eligibility: Those submitting papers must be: (1) a medical student mentored by a faculty in a PM&R department; or (2) a resident; or (3) fellow in PM&R; or (4) a young faculty member in PM&R having less than five years post-residency training. The content of the submitted paper must be original research relevant to the domain of PM&R (literature reviews and descriptive case studies are not eligible for these awards). It must have clearly stated hypotheses, appropriate research methodology and data analysis, and valid conclusions. The investigation in the paper must have been completed prior to the submission.

Application Process: To enter the competition for the Best Platform Paper Presentation Award, applicants must complete and submit the regular Paper and Poster Abstract Application (including the short abstract), along with a more detailed summary of the work, which should be no longer than 1000 words. This longer manuscript must include a brief literature-based rational for the study, a description of the subjects, methods, data analysis, a summary of the results, and conclusions. Bulleted or outlined formats of presentation are acceptable as long as they are clear and address the above content. All materials must be received at the AAP Office by September 1, 2007.

Review Process: The AAP Program Committee and the AAP Research Committee will meet concurrently to review submissions this fall. The Program Committee will review the regular Paper and Poster Abstract Application (including short abstracts) without seeing the Best Platform Paper Presentation Award Applications or the longer award-related 1000-word summaries and will make overall decisions about which abstract merit presentation at the AAP Annual Meeting. The Research Committee will separately review the Best Platform Paper Presentation Award Applications (including the 1000-word summaries) to determine which, if any, should be selected. DO NOT include any identifying information on this submittal page. Avoid any reference to location and/or name of the institution(s) within the abstract. This is for the purpose of blind review.

Awards: Winning presenter will be awarded a complimentary registration for the AAP Annual Meeting plus a $250 honronarium. Winners will be notified by October 28, 2007. Best Platform Paper Presentation will be featured at the next AAP Annual Meeting.
