2009 Annual Meeting Highlights and Photos

The 2009 AAP Annual Meeting, occurring February 24-28 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was the second most attended conference in AAP history.

Under the direction of Dr. Gerard Francisco, the Program Committee assembled a meeting described by participants as “outstanding,” “great,” and “the best ever.” The AAP thanks the Program Committee, the course directors, and the presenters who contributed their time and energy to preparing for the meeting and implementing the ideas and strategies that made the Annual Meeting such a great success.

Adding to the enjoyable Broadmoor atmosphere was the picture-perfect weather in Colorado Springs. With a few exceptions, there was abundant sunshine each day and the temperatures reached the mid-60s.

The many highlights of the meeting included Dr. Kevin Weiss as the DeLisa Lecturer, Dr. Randall Braddom’s “The Future of PM&R” lecture at the Residents/Fellows Council, Dr. John King’s Presidential Address, and an offsite Residents Dinner at the Phantom Canyon Brewing Company.

2009 AAP Annual Meeting Evaluations

Just like last year, Meeting participants were asked to complete evaluations that rated the overall meeting, the speakers, course objectives, and practical value of the course (among many other factors). In addition to the course ratings (1 – 4, 1 being “very important” of “Excellent” depending on the question and 4 being “not important” or “poor” depending on the questions), we also entered each response into survey software, giving us an exact percentage of results based on participant responses.

Overall Meeting Feedback

We received 185 evaluations for “Overall Meeting Feedback.” Sixty percent rated the meeting as “excellent.” Thirty-seven percent rated the meeting as “good,” and two percent rated it as “fair.”

Many participants suggested making the poster presentations more accessible to attendees, blocking out specific times for poster sessions.

Educational sessions and networking were the two most popular reasons for attending the Meeting, followed closely by Career Opportunities and Committee/Council involvement.

The detailed evaluation of the 2009 Annual Meeting will be available in Summer edition of the AAP Newsletter.

Check this site soon -- we'll post more pictures as they become available. If you have some photos that you took during the Meeting and you'd like to share them, send them to kdietz@physiatry.org.
