APEC BEST PAPER AWARD The American Physiatric Education Council (APEC) is offering a $5000 Award for the Best Paper focused on medical necessity related to inpatient rehabilitation services Eligibility: Eligible papers should have clearly stated hypotheses, appropriate research methodology (if applicable), data analysis (if applicable), and valid conclusions regarding medical necessity related to appropriate settings for inpatient rehabilitation services. The work reported in the paper must have been completed prior to the submission. The Award winner is required to register for the AAP 2009 Annual Meeting. Application Process: To enter the competition for the APEC Award for the Best Paper on Medical Necessity for Inpatient Rehabilitation Services, applicants must: 1) complete and submit the regular online Paper and Poster Abstract Submission Form at www.physiatry.org (including submission of the short abstract); and 2) complete and submit the detailed online submission form for the Best Paper Presentation Award (including submission of a longer version of the paper limited to 1,000 words). This longer manuscript must include the following sections: Objective (brief literature-based rationale for the study), Design (brief description of study, subjects, methods, data analysis), a summary of the Results, and Conclusions. Bulleted or outlined formats of presentation are acceptable as long as they are clear and address the above content. Online submission for this special award must be received by September 19, 2008. Review Process: APEC will review papers submitted for this award. APEC reserves the right to withhold the award if no entry is deemed sufficiently meritorious. Award: The winning author will be awarded a $5000.00 honorarium and will present the paper at the Plenary Session of the next AAP Annual Meeting February 24-28, 2009 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The paper will be published in the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. The winner will be announced by December 1, 2008.
